Le Mieux Celebrates Janel Luu During AANHPI Month
Asian-American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month is a time for honoring generations of the AANHPI community who have enriched our countryโs history and continue to contribute to our future success. This month, Le Mieux is proud to highlight our innovative CEO and fearless formulator, Janel Luu.
What was your first experience of making skincare like and how did you feel about it?
Magic! I could visualize what I wanted to accomplish on the skin. I could choose the ingredients that can accomplish it. And I could experiment with different bases to get the perfect texture.
"Magic! I could visualize what I wanted to accomplish..."
What was the tipping point that made you want to create your own skincare line?
Nobody agreed with me when I wanted to add a lot of high functioning ingredients, which at the time didnโt make much sense to others. People tend to think, โWhy change something thatโs not broken?" But I wanted to be a disruptor of the norm! So thatโs how I started. And thatโs why I named the brand Le Mieux, which means "the best" in French. I'm always striving to be the best. I donโt think Iโm there yet, but Iโm always striving!
Is your skincare popular outside the USA? Are the reasons for its popularity any different overseas?
I donโt see it as country-specific. I look at it in terms of womenโs dedication to their skin commitments. Women in every country want to look good and take care of their skin. We attract women that are more efficacy-oriented rather than brand-oriented. Women are savvier with their choices.
"I wanted to be a disruptor of the norm! So thatโs how I started."
What kind of presence does Le Mieux have in Korea?
When we started, we were in about 500 medical doctorsโ offices. That was before Korea became the beauty country of the world. We were the very first company to introduce growth factor, so we could create rapid recovery. We had a lot of physicians loving our product because they saw the transformation of deeply damaged skin. If you can do that for very damaged skin, you can repair healthy skin even better.
"I was taught to be very proud of what I developed and always do the best, to create excellence."
Does your heritage play a big role in the formulations and professional protocols for Le Mieux?
Huge. Even though Korea is a very small country, we are very proud people. Being Korean, I was taught to be very proud of what I developed and always do my best to try to create excellence. Itโs inherent in my DNA! I step outside of whatโs safe. The result? I am able to create something amazing. Thatโs my goal, and I try to accomplish it every day. I donโt think we ever achieve absolute excellence. You have to strive for it every day.
